Halas Hall & Walter Payton Center
Lake Forest IL
Project Description:
The Walter Payton Center located at Halas Hall in Lake Forest IL, is the indoor practice facility used by The Chicago Bears Football Club which underwent extensive renovations in 2004-2005.
Scope of Work Payton Center:
Consistent with previous assignments with this client, John Fenn performed project management oversight and engineering services for the renovation of the Payton Center involving removal of mold damaged wood roofing components as a result of water intrusion. The structure consists of 80-foot-tall, 200-foot-span wood glulam arches, tongue and-groove decking, and plywood sheathing. John Fenn performed tasks that included abatement design, preparations of drawings and specifications, for existing and new building materials as well as all air quality issues. John provided coordination with the design team and the owner of the entire process, including environmental oversight and OSHA compliance monitoring during the construction of a new roofing system. All the work was completed on an accelerated schedule so as not to interfere with the operations and administration of the Chicago Bears Football Club.
Scope of Work Halas Hall:
JHF performed environmental engineering services at the facility during the 2004-2005 football season and prior to and during the new addition and renovations to Halas Hall in 2013.
JHF performed tasks that included OSHA compliance for indoor air quality monitoring of the training facilities and administrative offices within Halas Hall. Additionally, JHF performed sampling and laboratory analysis of soils to be excavated during construction of the new addition as required by IEPA prior to disposal of soils off site or to be used as fill on site. JHF provided all regulatory documentation and coordination with the design team and the owner during the excavation for the construction of the new Halas Hall.
